Course Goals (acquired competencies): Upon finishing the course it is expected that the student will be capable to perform thorough analysis of codes and coding schemes; application of coding techniques in various technologies and systems; thorough analysis of cryptographic protocols, algorithms and mechanisms and their application in communication systems. It is expected that the student will be capable to perform research work in these areas.

Subject of the course content: Overview of modern code techniques: usage of code schemes in optical/wireless-mobile/satelite communication systems. Performance bounds of codes. Performance analysis and decoding of: Reed-Muller, BCH, Reed-Solomon codes. Performance analysis of LDPC codes. Performance analysis of concatenation code schemes and iterative decoding. New trends in the coding techniques. Advanced cryptographic techniques for providing security communications. Security aspects in modern communication systems. Steganogrphy. Secret messages hidden in multimedia.
