A student team from FEEIT at the study program KHEE, Marko Petrov, Filip Petkovski, Riste Nakjev, Tijana Petkovska, Andrej Ilievski and Stefan Vasilevski, menthored by prof. Josif Kjosev and ass. Nikola Jovanovski, were granted financial support for material expenses by EPICSinIEEE for their project. EPICSinIEEE finances engineering projects in community service executed by volunteers.
This aim of this project specifically, is to rise the awareness of the high school students regarding the widespread air pollution and it’s health consequences, by easy monitoring of PM particles levels in the vicinity of their school.
Students worked throughout the previous semester and during the summer and handcrafted ten devices for monitoring and displaying the PM particles levels (PM2.5 and PM10), as well as the temperature and humidity of the air. The devices will be given to the high schools that participated in the project application.
One of the devices is mounted at FEEIT and it’s readings can be accessed at https://thingspeak.mathworks.com/channels/2650581 as well as in the hall of the Annex building over the entrance in the Electronics laboratory.
Mounting of the devices at schools started this week beginning with the gymnasium “Rade Jovchevski Korchagin”. The schools “Mihailo Pupin” and “Vlado Tasevski” are scheduled next week.
The system design and the produced prototype were presented in a paper at the ETAI2024 conference.
The project is due to January 2025, and there is a follow-up period of one year. Some of the team members have already graduated or are close to graduation (Marko Petrov and Filip Petkovski), but new members have joined (Maksim Panovski and Ognen Pendarovski) and they already have their assignments.
High schools who participated in the Project application: Mihajlo Pupin – Skopje, Gjorgji Naumov – Bitola, Kole Nedelkovski – Veles, Vlado Tasevski – Skopje, Gjorche Petov – Kriva Palanka, Riste Ristevski Richko – Prilep, Gosho Vikentiev – Kochani, Rade Jovchevski Korchagin – Skopje.
