Course: Applied Discrete – Event Systems
Code: 3ФЕИТ01014
ECTS points: 6 ECTS
Number of classes per week: 3+0+0+3
Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Jovan Stefanovski
Course Goals (acquired competencies): Ability for solving problems of analysis and design of discrete-event systems. Using various methods and algorithms. Derivation of numeric solutions for control and/or filtering. Ability for application of various methodologies, in the given content, to real control problems, as well as ability to do science research in the topic.
Course Syllabus: Introduction: the concept of event and the notion of discrete-event systems (DES). The relation between continuous-time system and DES. States of DES. Basic theory of graphs i methods for obtaining optimal trajectory. Finite automata and languages. Equation and diagram of change of the system state. Modeling and simulation of discrete-event systems. Statical, dynamical and colored Petri nets. Basics of max-plus algebra. String algebra and matrix description of DES. Analysis of DES (observability, stability, conflicts and pausing). Synthesis of DES and notion of feedback control. Controllability and methods for control and design of observer (supervisor controller). Application of the theory of DES for modeling, analysis and design of traffic systems, automated stocking, automated production lines, communication systems, computer networks… Application of software tools for analysis and design of discrete-event systems.
