Course Goals (acquired competencies): Candidates will be able to design and implement systems for measurement and analysis of performances of IP based networks.
Course Syllabus: Needs for measuring the internet. Practical issues in internet measurement. Selection of measurement locations. Measurements inside backbone networks. Measurements in access networks. Measurements across various protocol layers. Measurements of Internet infrastructure. Internet tomography. Measurement of network performances. Active and passive measurement tools. Traffic measurement for various applications: DNS, web, P2P, VoIP, IPTV. Anonymizing measurement data. Security aspects of Internet measurement.
