On December 24, 2024, a meeting was held to inform the staff at FEEIT UKIM about the establishment of the Smart Energy Systems Group (SESG), within the framework of the INITIATE project. The meeting consisted of presentations of the activities in the INITIATE project and the SESG concept, which were followed by discussions on the next steps of action, including the establishment of Smart Energy System Living Labs at INNOFEIT. The event focused on the structure of SESG around four main pillars: distributed energy systems, integrated planning and optimization, advanced data analysis and management, as well as energy storage and e-mobility. This framework should ensure compliance with the current and future requirements of the energy sector, enabling higher quality research, improved collaboration with industry and the application of advanced technologies and concepts such as IoT, digital twin and machine learning. The meeting highlighted the need of including FEEIT staff in the group to consolidate its intellectual resources, including scientific papers, software and materials, in order to strengthen the foundation of SESG and support its activities.
