Course: Application of Renewable Energy Sources
Code: 3ФЕИТ02020
ECTS points: 6 ECTS
Number of classes per week: 3+0+0+3
Lecturers: Prof. Dr. Verka Georgieva, , Prof. Dr. Vlatko Stoilkov, Prof. Dr. Margarita Ginovska
Course Goals (acquired competencies): Students will obtain knowledge about application of renewable energy potential with emphasis on solar, wind, hydro and biomass as renewable energy sources. This knowledge will give the students wider view of RES and help them to make a choice for deeply research work in particular RES.
Course Syllabus: Comparison of conventional and non-conventional energy sources. Environment and RES. San and solar irradiation. Utilisation of solar energy. Types of collectors. Flat collectors. Concentrating (focusing) collectors. Orientation and inclination of collectors. Direct conversion of solar energy to electricity. Solar cells Solar plants. Wind energy: historical aspects. Wind energy potential. Fundamental parameters and laws that influent wind energy conversion. Small hydroplants as RES. Objects and classification of SHP. Elecricity production and grid connection. Guideline for designing SHP. Biomass as energy storage basis. Biomass energy conversion to thermal and electrical energy.
