9. Course Prerequisites
10. Course Goals (acquired competencies):

Acquiring knowledge on the energy policy of the European Union (EU) and the Energy Community (EnC) with a focus on support schemes for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Energy Efficiency (EnE) and their effective implementation in EU and the Republic of North Macedonia. Developing skills for applicability assessment of different support schemes in dependence on the specific socio-economic conditions and the required results.

11. Course Syllabus:

1. A need for support schemes for RES and EnE: Global trends in the energy field – energy resources and their exploitation, environment and climate change, security of energy supply, geopolitics vs development of RES technologies and new (intelligent) concepts of Power Systems (PS). 2. EU and EnC energy policy: Energy Union – the EU strategic document, Clean Energy for all Europeans – the EU legislative package, Grean Deal – the EU roadmap until 2040, Directives and Regulations for promotion of RES, Directives and Regulations for promotion of EnE, Obligations of the Republic of North Macedonia as a contracting party to the EnC Treaty, Strategies and Action Plans for promotion of RES and EnE in the Republic of North Macedonia.  3. Schemes for support of RES: Investment based subsidies; Tax based subsidies; Feed-in Tariffs; Feed-in Premium; Programs for participation/shareholding; Green Tariffs; Tendering System; Tradable Green Certificate System; Environmental Taxes; Voluntary Agreements.  4. Implementation and Results of support schemes for RES: Implementation and experiences in EU, Southeast Europe and Republic of North Macedonia.  5. Schemes for support of EnE: Environmental Taxes; Tax exemptions; Possible pass-down of costs to end users via suppliers; Possible pass-down into the wholesale electricity price; Investment based subsidies; White Tariffs; Preferential Loans; Sale of Kyoto units; Fiscal incentives financed via Government budget.  6. Implementation and Results of support schemes for EnE: Implementation and experiences in EU, Southeast Europe and Republic of North Macedonia.

Lecturing including presentations and simulations, interactions at classes, homework as well as project and independent work.
