A workshop entitled “CYBER RESILIENCE: Application of new technologies, challenges and opportunities for more effective protection of users of payment services” was organized by the National Bank, on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024. The governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska, Aleksandar Risteski, professor at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies (FEEIT – UKIM Skopje), Goran Jankoski, chief supervisor for information systems at the National Bank, Igor Davchevski, member of the Management Board of NLB Bank, and Kiril Buhov, director of the information technology sector at Halk Bank, presented their views. Representatives from commercial banks and the National Bank participated in the workshop. More details about the event can be found at https://www.nbrm.mk/ns-newsarticle-soopstenie-04042024.nspx.
Special attention was paid to the role of artificial intelligence in strengthening cyber resilience. Prof. Risteski noted: “Artificial intelligence is intensively developing and finds wide application not only in science and new technologies, but also in the economy and society, including the finance sector. Like any other technology, it is equally accessible to banks and users of their services, but, unfortunately, also to malicious entities when planning and performing their activities.” He also pointed to the importance of strengthening general awareness and education about cyberthreats, and thus improving security when using payment services.
Besides the main workshop topic, the participants emphasized the need for quality education and quality engineers in the field of cyber security, which FEEIT has been creating for decades. Among the large number of graduated engineers from FEEIT working in the banking sector and in the field of cyber security, the participants of the workshop Goran Jankoski, Igor Davchevski, and Kiril Buhov are also FEEIT alumni.
We express our gratitude to the National Bank and the Governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska, for the invitation and the organization of the workshop, as well as to all other participants for the fruitful discussion and shared experiences. FEEIT remains open to cooperation with all companies and institutions working in common research areas with the Faculty.
