10. Course Goals (acquired competencies): Understanding the need for planning and optimizing telecommunications networks. Ability to apply knowledge of planning and optimization including the principles of network design, optimal design, maintenance and use, and features including the aspects of redundancy, stability and reliability of the network. Use of the tools in the domain of access and core networks. |

11. Course Syllabus: Basic principles of network planning, and their application in the accessed and core networks. Generic techniques for designing radio and wired networks, using analytical and numerical algorithms. Optimization algorithms. Methods for calculating core network capacity and network redundancy. Analysis of measurement techniques and characterization of signal quality. Electromagnetic compatibility. Main techniques for cartographic representation at the wireless signal levels. A complete approach to the problem of planning a given communication system, in terms of user requirements, service quality, system capacity, network coverage. Detailed analysis of the planning and optimization of different types of network technologies, xDSL, DOCSIS, GSM, UMTS / HxPA, LTE, WiFi. Aspects and problems of coexistence. Economic models and business planning. |
