ourse: Technologies for Biomass Energy Production
Code: 3ФЕИТ08033
ECTS points: 6 ECTS
Number of classes per week: 3+0+0+3
Lecturer: Prof. dr. Anton Causevski, Prof. dr. Margarita Ginovska
Course Goals (acquired competencies): This course is giving advanced knowledge to the students for technologies for biomass energy production. Within this course students are getting acquainted with utilization of residual biomass for energy production: bio fuels, heat and electricity.
Course Syllabus: Energy from biomass – main resources, classification, transformation pf energy, new trends in biomass technologies. Theoretical basics – Thermodynamics of the processes, thermo-chemical combustion, mass and energy balance. Aerobic and anaerobic processes, types of digesters. Advanced technologies for biomass energy conversion (combustion, gasification, pyrolysis).Techno-economical aspects for biomass energy utilization. Second generation biofuels – for cleaner production and sustainable development. Biodiesel – production , characteristics, and application. Biomass energy from urban waste. Co-generation biomass facilities for heat and electricity production.
