Course Goals (acquired competencies): With successful passing of this course, the candidate will acquire competences to analyze and select, as well as to design energy-efficient electrical machines and transformers.
Course Syllabus: Introduction to energy efficiency in terms of electrical machines and transformers. Energy efficiency classes for electrical machines and transformers. New trends in the development and challenges. Materials and technologies for production. Methodology for reducing energy consumption in the power devices. Selection and application of methods for assessment of losses. Regimes of operation of electric motors in terms of energy efficiency. Types of power losses. Opportunities and strategies for saving energy in drives with electrical machines. Control systems for electrical machines in order to increase their efficiency. Impact of regimes of operation on energy efficiency in transformers. Application of new technologies in the production of transformers for reduce losses and increase efficiency. Methodology for selection of transformers.
