Course Goals (acquired competencies): Acquiring professional knowledge of the processes and ways for electricity generation from thermal power plants and hydro power plants, knowledge of the basic facilities within the individual types of power plants – their role and efficiency, as well as a ways of connecting power plants to the power system.
11. Course Syllabus: Types of hydro power plants and their main components. Energy processes in hydro power plants. Principle of operation and classification of hydraulic turbines. Selection of hydraulic turbine. Draft tube. Cavitation. Water hammer. Pumped-storage hydro power plants. Thermal power plants (TPP). Thermodynamic processes in thermal power plants. The basic technological scheme and main components of TPP. Energy processes in thermal power plants. Efficiency coefficients in thermal power plants. Methods for improving the thermal efficiency coefficient. Optimal generation scheduling of thermal power plants realized according to different types of schemes. Facilities and equipment layout of thermal power plants and hydro power plants. Electrical schemes of power plants.

19. Conditions for acquiring teacher’s signature and for taking final exam Regular attendance at lectures and auditory exercises.
20. Forms of assessment Through two partial written exams (duration of 2 hours each) or a final written exam on the whole teaching material (duration 2 hours). The points from the partial exams/final exam are included in the final grade.
It is not allowed to use books, scripts, manuscripts or notes of any kind, mobile phone, tablet or any other electronic device during the exam.
