Course Goals (acquired competencies): Understanding the theory of reliability, probability and statistics. Learning and understanding  the basic concepts and principles for assessing the reliability of the individual segments (generation, transmission and distribution of electricity), as well as complex power systems treated integrally. Competence in finding the most effective measures and techniques to increase the reliability of a power system.

Course Syllabus: Characteristic functions and indices. Characteristic distributions. Diagrams of states and indicators. Exponential distribution. Complex systems described by Markov processes. Stationary indicators of systems reliability. Specific cases. Networks. Elementary network structures. Complex networks. Minimum cuts. Minimum paths. Complex systems. Fault tree. Searches. Method of statistical tests (Monte Carlo). Distribution networks. Reliability of distribution networks and calculation of indices of reliability. Planning and development of distribution systems. Power sources. Model with two states. Group of power sources. Peak power plants. Indicators of reliability of power sources. Planning of power sources. Available power. Model of consumption. Analysis of the reliability of sources in power system. Construction planning. Operational reserve. Transmission lines. Model with two states. Simultaneous faults. Power plants. Method of selective search. Methods with minimal cuts. Interconnected power systems. Limitations in the exchange of energy. Integrated power system. Structural analysis of the power system. Simultaneous outages. Analysis of power system operation and calculation of reliability performance. Cost-benefit analysis. Losses due to power interruptions. Selection of an optimal solution.
