Radiation Physics Laboratory (RAD-LAB) was established in 2018, as a continuation of the Center for Solar Technologies and the accredited Laboratory for detection of irradiated food. RAD-LAB is accredited by the Institute for Accreditation of RNM and works according to the MKC EN ISO / IEC 17025:2018 quality standard with fixed scope of accreditation for the following testing methods:

Detection of irradiated food:

  • Standard МКС EN 13751:2011 – Foodstuffs – Detection of irradiated food using photostimulated luminescence,
  • Standard МКС EN 1788:2011 – Foodstuffs – Thermoluminescence detection of irradiated food from which silicate minerals can be isolated.

Assessment of personal dose equivalent due to external exposure to ionizing radiation with thermoluminescence dosimeters for personal monitoring Hp (10):

  • Standard: IEC 62387:2012 Radiation protection instrumentation – Passive integrating dosimetry systems for personal and environmental monitoring of photon and beta radiation,
  • Standard: IAEA GSG-7:2018 Occupationalradiation protection – General safety guide.

Method for measurement of ambient dose equivalent H*(10) in the vicinity of sources of ionizing radiation in thе working place:

  • Standard: IAEA-PRTM-1 Workplace Monitoring for Radiation and Contamination.

Accredited entity by IARNM with МКС EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 Standard for detection of irradiated food, assessment of personal dose equivalent, with Certificate of accreditation No. LT – 099

RAD-LAB in its scope of work includes teaching activities in which students from the first, second and third cycle of studies work on practical tasks and research related to their diploma, master’s and doctoral theses.

RAD-LAB also carries out notable scientific research activities in the field of characterization of irradiated materials. The scientific research carried out in RAD-LAB, in cooperation with a large number of foreign research centers, is published in reference impact factor journals.

RAD-LAB is the holder of the Food Safety Monitoring Program – Monitoring of irradiated food, given by the Food and Veterinary Agency.

Tests and characterization of irradiated materials in RAD-LAB can be done using the following techniques:

  • optically stimulated luminescence with the SUREC PPSL mobile instrument for detection of irradiated food,
  • thermoluminescence and optically stimulated luminescence with the Riso TL/OSL DA 20 system with a radioactive beta source 90Sr/90Y,
  • thermoluminescent dosimetry with the instrument TLD Reader RE-2000A,
  • measuring the ambient dose rate equivalent with the GAMMA-SCOUT instrument,
  • dosimetry measurements with EPR SPINSCAN XDS,
  • dosimetry measurement with Jasco UV-Vis Spectrophotometer.

RAD-LAB conducts characterization and testing of solar collector and photovoltaic systems using demonstration and real equipment.

RAD-LAB also has a laboratory for sample and thin film preparation.
