The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEEIT) is organizing a thematic school on ” e-Health and Pervasive Technologies”, within the European project WideHealth. The winter school will be attended by 133 participants from the country, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Nigeria, Peru, France and Japan.
The International School will be organized as a hybrid event – with physical presence at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and online from 14 to 17 of February 2022. The School will be focused on the following topics: smart devices and technologies, e-health; data-driven health; artificial intelligence and machine learning for health; data analysis; smart devices and computing.
As part of the school, an international Machine Learning competition will be organized, in which participants will need to develop an algorithm for recognizing human activities using smart devices, such as smartphones and smartwatch. The competition ends on Thursday, February 17, when the final evaluation will be made and the best teams will be promoted and awarded.
For the project coordinator, Assistant Professor Dr. Hristijan Gjoreski, the school is an excellent opportunity for students to gain knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning applied in health. The school will be taught by renowned experts from world-renowned scientific institutions from Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal and Slovenia. This is a great opportunity for students to develop skills for working with health data, to compete, as well as to make contacts with their colleagues from abroad. The European project WideHealth provides an excellent opportunity to improve the scientific research capacities of FEEIT and UKIM, as well as to train a large number of young researchers in these fields. The practical classes and exercises are supported by assistants and research staff from FEEIT, but also staff from other institutions participating in the project.
One of the leading partners in the project is the Italian research center FBK (Fodazione Bruno Kessler), which are experts in the field of e-health. Professor Dr. Oscar Majora, Head of Digital Health at FBK, is also a leading expert on the project and will be attending the school in person with two lectures. According to him, this project is an excellent opportunity to share knowledge on the topic of e-health, especially to enrich the knowledge of students in these areas, as well as their training in conducting research on this topic with the support of experts and researchers in those areas.
