At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, a panel discussion on the topic “Disproportion of Digital Skills”, co-organized by UNDP and FEEIT, was held on November 5, 2024, at the INNOFET facilities. This event marked the first in a series of events under the name Digital Discussions, organized by UNDP, where current and future challenges related to digitalization and digital skills in our society as a whole are discussed.
The event was moderated by Bojan Kordalov, while the panelists represented various fields: formal and informal education, UNDP, and the civil sector:
Prof. Marija Kalender, FEEIT
Irena Ivanovska, Semos Education
Margarita Gulevska, Open the Windows Society
Snežana Mirchevska Damjanovska, UNDP
The focus of the discussion was the noticeable gap between the poor digital skills of the general population in the country and the highly skilled ICT workforce, which is in high demand even on the international labor market.
The discussion raised many questions, considering that it is a broad topic that affects all sectors of society. As a result, concrete steps were discussed for future actions in the joint cooperation between the state, the public and private sectors, education, and science, aimed at reducing the identified gap—especially on the eve of the next technological revolution: the development and use of Artificial Intelligence.
