RoboMac Junior 2025

Event date: 12.05.2025

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, together with the North Macedonia Section of IEEE, continues the established tradition and is organizing the fifth edition of the competition in robotics and electronics for high school students — RoboMac Junior 2025, which will take place from May 12 to May 14 2025. The competition will be held in parallel with the main event — RoboMac 2025.

The competition will take place at the premises of FEEIT, involving 54 fourth-year students from 30 high schools across the Republic of North Macedonia, divided into two categories. In addition to the competitive activities, participants will also have the opportunity to attend several lectures on popular topics in robotics, artificial intelligence, and electronics, delivered by professors and experts in the field.

The agenda for the event can be downloaded from the following link.

Below is a description of the two categories:

Category 1: RoboMac Junior – AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOTICS

(organized by the Institute of Automation and Systems Engineering at FEEIT)

The goal of this category is to increase interest in robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence among high school students in our country. Participants will work with real robots and become familiar with all key aspects of a robotic system, from hardware to software programming and the challenges of integrating a certain level of intelligence.

Participants in this category will compete in programming, controlling, and smart navigation of mobile Arduino robots, with the goal for the robots to independently and quickly solve given tasks (obstacle avoidance, path following, smart parking, etc.). The work will be carried out in several phases:

  • Introduction to the robots and the software needed to program them
  • Assembly and programming of the robots in preparation for the final track competition
  • Final competition between the different teams

Number of participants: 30, divided into 10 teams.

Category 2: RoboMac Junior – SMART ELECTRONICS FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

(organized by the Institute of Electronics at FEEIT)

The goal of this category is to raise interest in smart electronic systems, which form the foundation of artificial intelligence systems. Participants will have the opportunity to work hands-on with embedded computer systems, electronic sensors, electric motors and their drivers, as well as software, to develop and implement their own intelligent control algorithms.

Participants in this category will compete by developing an algorithm for a specific task and implementing it in an appropriate programming language for the embedded Arduino platform. The work will be carried out in the following phases:

  • Introduction to the embedded platform and its programming software
  • Introduction to sensors and motor control electronics
  • Testing of electronic components and development of an algorithm for the given task
  • Implementation and testing
  • Final competition

Number of participants: 24, divided into 8 teams.

Throughout the entire event, participants will have the opportunity to share knowledge not only with faculty instructors and assistants but also with their peers — fellow competitors. They will also work in teams. The planned teams will consist of three participants from different schools.

All participants and mentors will receive certificates of participation, and medals will be awarded to the best-performing teams.
