10. Course Goals (acquired competencies): Understanding the concept of telecommunication networking and different types of telecommunication networks. Introduction to basic network protocols in modern telecommunication networks. Analysis of network scenarios and their optimization. Performance analysis. Design and modeling of telecommunication networks. Visions for future development.
11. Course Syllabus: Introduction. Elements of telecommunication networks. Classification and services. Network concepts. Layered architecture. Switching architecture. Access networks and techniques. Peer-to-peer protocols. Data layer protocols. Multiple access types (static techniques, random access, scheduling etc.). Data networks (LAN, WAN etc.). Broadband networks. Internet. Internetworking. Cloud computing. Software Defined Networks – SDN. Network Function Virtualization – NFV. Performance analysis of telecommunication networks. Losses and delay. Basic queuing models. Liitle’s theorem. Wireless and mobile systems. Future developments, NGN.

19. Conditions for acquiring teacher’s signature and for taking final exam Regular following of lectures and tutorial classes and complete fulfillment of all lab classes

Forms of assessment Two partial exams during the semester (in the middle and in the end of the semester) with a duration of 120 minutes each or one full exam in a corresponding exam session with a duration of 120 minutes. Usage of books, hand-written materials or any kind of supplementary text book during the exam is not allowed, only a calculator is allowed
