Course: Measurements of Parameters of Renewable Sources
Code: 3ФЕИТ03005
ECTS points: 6 ECTS
Number of classes per week: 3+0+0+3
Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Vladimir Dimchev
Course Goals (acquired competencies): The students are getting acquainted with methods and instrumentation for measurements of physical quantities within renewable sources, especially for measurement of wind energy and solar radiation.
Course Syllabus: Fundamentals of wind energy, physical principles of atmospheric movements, local winds. Instrumentation for wind measurements. Types of anemometers, direction vanes, accuracy, calibration of sensors. Statistical methods for analysis of wind data. Estimation of wind energy on complex terrains, modeling. Climatology of solar radiation. Methods for measurements of direct diffuse and reflected solar radiation. Methods for measurement of solar spectrum. Instrumentation for measurement solar radiation: pyranometers, pyrheliometers, calibrated photovoltaic cells. Construction, characteristics and application. Automated measurement systems and data loggers for wind and solar radiation measurements. Transmission of measurement data. Examples based on LabVIEW.
