10. Course Goals (acquired competencies): Obtaining basic knowledge about the processes and electricity generation methods from tradiotional electricity sources: thermal and hydro power plants. Obtaining basic knowledge about the role, importance and components of substations, as well as acquainting with substations element sizing.
11. Course Syllabus: Primary and transformed forms of energy. Thermal power plants. Basic scheme and main components of thermal power plants. Efficiency coefficients of thermal power plants. Methods for increasing the thermal efficiency. Types of hydropower plants and their main components. Energy processes in hydropower plants. Types and selection of hydraulic turbines. Types and components of substations. Calculation of relevant currents for sizing of substation components. Heating of conductors in normal operation mode. Forces and stresses in substations. Mechanical and thermal sizing of busbars. Schemes, fields and cubicles in substations.
12. Learning methods: Lectures, exercises, professional lectures from practice and workout of the project tasks and project solutions. Visiting power plants in the R. of North Macedonia.

20. Forms of assessment The final grade will be determined based on two written and oral exam. Two partial written exams (lasting 120 minutes) can be provided during the semester or one written exam in the planned exam sessions(duration 120 minutes). For students who have passed the partial exams / written exam, a final oral exam can be provided.
During the exam it is not allowed to use books, scripts, manuscripts or notes of any kind, mobile phone, tablet or any other electronic device.
