10. Course Goals (acquired competencies):

By successfully completing this course, the candidate will acquire competences for designing and setting up protection systems for different types of electric drives.

11. Course Syllabus:

Introduction. Protection of disturbances caused by working machine. Types of working machines and their characteristics. Protection of overload. Bimetal relays. Thermal relays. Protection of heavy overloads with short duration. Fuses. Over current relays. Protection of disturbances caused by network. Voltage relays. Connection of high power motors according to network. Choice and adjusting of protection according to duty rating. Protection of disturbances caused by power converters application. Power converters for DC drives. Power converters for AC drives. Protection of disturbances caused by environment. “S” protection of electric drives. Protection types: classical electromechanical relays, modular electronics, microprocessor based.
