9. Course Prerequisites
10. Course Goals (acquired competencies):

Knowledge of the railway transport, its specifics and regulations in the Republic of Macedonia and the EU.

11. Course Syllabus:

1. Railway transport: the classification of rail transport, advantages and inconveniences of railway transport. 2. Globalization and liberalization of rail transport: the impact of rail transport in the processes of globalization, the division of railway companies – various forms of division, EU policy in the field of rail transport. 3. Legislation in railway transport: domestic legislation, UIC documents, place, role and responsibilities of each stakeholder in the railway transport, technical standards for interoperability of rail transport – EU directives, experiences from the application of EU legislation in EU countries, South-East Europe and the Republic of Macedonia. 4. Planning and managing projects of the railway transport: railway and socio-economic development of the society, competitiveness and impacts of the railway on the environment, feasibility studies on rail investments and methods of financing, project management for construction of new railroads, reconstruction and maintenance of existing lines, planning of activities.

Lectures and exercises with presentations and simulations, interactivity of classes, homework and preparation of project assignments.
