10. Course Goals (acquired competencies): Obtaining a basic engineering knowledge for the power generation processes in systems that use renewable energy sources. Acquainting with the basis of renewable energy systems sizing. Getting capabilities for economic evaluation of systems that use renewable energy sources. | ||||||||
11. Course Syllabus: Categorization of energy sources. Present situation and trends in use of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). Climate changes. Properties and statistical parameters of the wind energy. Wind turbines and wind generators. Systems for use of biomass. Methods for biogas generation and its use. Use of geothermal energy. Basic characteristics of small hydro power plants. Use of waves and tidal energy. Properties of the solar radiation. Photovoltaic systems. Systems for conversion of the solar energy into heat and electricity. Systems for energy storage. Mechanisms for supporting the RES systems. Economic analysis and cost-effectiveness of RES systems. | ||||||||

19. Conditions for acquiring teacher’s signature and for taking final exam | Continual attending of lectures, doing homeworks and student projects. | |||||||
20. Forms of assessment | During the semester, two partial written 120 minutes exams or a written 120 minutes exam are forseen. For students who have passed the partial exams or the exam, a final oral exam (duration 60 minutes) may be conducted. The points from the partial exams or the exam and the final oral exam are included into the final grade. | |||||||
