10. Course Goals (acquired competencies):

Analysis of the new communication networking paradigm based on software defined entities.

11. Course Syllabus:

Introduction to Software Defined Networking – SDN. Need for a new network architecture. Active telecommunication networks and architectures. SDN data plane. SDN control plane. Scalable and flexible data networks. OpenFlow-based software defined networks (FloodLight, Mininet). SDN implementation models. Software extensions for security (FortNox), for wireless communications (OpenRadio, Odin), for network functions (BigData, RouteFlow), for traffic balancing, for energy efficiency. Network visualization. Network virtualization (OpenVSwitch). Applications in telecommunication area and market. Applications in mobile networking.
