10. Course Goals (acquired competencies): Students will gain knowledge about light phenomena, light sources, displays, optical fibers and new memory units, as well as their application in electro-optical information transmission systems. |
11. Course Syllabus: Introduction to electro-optical phenomena and mechanisms. Interaction of light with matter. Electro-optical effects. Electrochromism, electroluminescence and optically stimulated luminescence. Optical signal generation – light sources. Structure and working principle of LED, OLED and PLED. Displays – working principle and types. Concept and operation of photovoltaic cells. Lasers and application in optoelectronic devices. Holography and new memory units. Optical fibers. |

19. Conditions for acquiring teacher’s signature and for taking final exam |

20. Forms of assessment |
Two partial written exams are provided during the semester, at the middle and at the end of the semester, with duration of 120 minutes; and test that are conducted during the classes. For students who have passed the partial exams, the exam is considered as passed. The other students take the final exam on the whole material, with duration of 120 minutes. Students do laboratory exercises and make seminar works during the semester. The final grade is formed considering points from the partial exams/final exam, tests, laboratory exercises and seminar works. |
