10. Course Goals (acquired competencies): Introducing with the technology of producing electricity from nuclear power plants, as well as the development of nuclear energy in the world. Possibility of comparative analyzes with other technologies for electricity generation, inclusion in calculations for analyzes power generation system development with different sources and technologies. | ||||||||
11. Course Syllabus: Transformation of nuclear energy into thermal energy. Characteristics of a nuclear reactor, thermal energy nuclear reactors, components of the active zone and their function, nuclear fuel. Structural characteristics of reactor components and nuclear fuel. Types of materials and their characteristics that are used for fuel, coolant, moderator, constructions in the active zone and for control elements. Heat transfer between the fuel element and coolant, and spatial distribution of temperature in the fuel channel. Characteristics of the steam generator, distribution of temperature of the primary and secondary medium. Radiation doses and radiation protection in the nuclear power plants (NPP). Construction of NPP, problem of locating and siting characteristics, cooling, connection to the grid and environmental effects. Types of modern nuclear reactors and development of new technologies for nuclear reactors. | ||||||||
