  9.    Course Prerequisites

10.    Course Goals (acquired competencies):  The student will gain in-depth knowledge of the existing and forthcoming optical networking technologies and standards. The student will be capable of planning and designing modern optical networks by getting knowledge about the services that are realized through optical networks.

11.    Course Syllabus: Generations of optical networks, services, comparison of technologies (competitive technologies), WDM architectures. Optical level, development of optical networks. SDH, Next Generation SDH, 1/10/40/100 Gb Ethernet, Carrier Ethernet. MPLS / GMPLS. OTN – standard. OTN Framework structure. Design of WDM networks. WDM FTTH – fiber to the home. NG-PON, WDM-PON. Photonic packet switching, switching to optical packets and bursts. All optical networks. Case studies. Optimization of wavelengths, multilayer traffic optimization IP / MPLS / WDM. Techno-economic analysis.

19.    Conditions for acquiring teacher’s signature and for taking final exam Regular attendance at classes and classroom and lab  exercises.
20.  Forms of assessment During the semester, two partial written exams are provided (at the middle and at the end of the semester, lasting 120 minutes), tests that are conducted during the classes and a test from laboratory exercises. The points from the partial exams, the tests are included in the final grade. In the planned exam sessions, a written exam is taken (duration 120 minutes)
