10. Course Goals (acquired competencies): Acquiring knowledge and knowledge in the field of selection, sizing and design of overhead lines and cables. The construction, performance and basics for design of overhead lines as well as selection, sizing and load checking of cable lines are studied.
11. Course Syllabus: Introduction. Field of study. Basic concepts. Elements of overhead lines (HV): (conductors and ropes, insulators, poles, grounding), their purpose and characteristics. Mechanical calculation: influence of climatic factors, temperature, wind, winter additional loads. Chain and parable. perseverance, exertion, forces. Equation of state and its solution. Critical range, critical temperature, limit range, ideal range. Basic dimensions of the pillars: safety distances, heights and distances, crossings and approaches, protection zone. Pillar earthing, typical earthing conductors. Atmospheric surges and protection from them. Design and construction of overhead lines – general principles, route selection, allowable spans, prestressing, assembly tables, templates. Computer-aided design. Power cables: construction: role, division, marking, heating and cooling of cables. Selection of type and cross-section – criteria. Laying, joining, finishing. Exploitation. New trends and new technologies in cable technology.

19. Conditions for acquiring teacher’s signature and for taking final exam Regular attendance at classes and auditory exercises. Development of two program tasks.
20. Forms of assessment Written exam: two partial exams (120 min each) or a final written exam (120 min). The student should prepare the planned homework and project assignments and submit them according to the published dynamics on the website for the course. Oral exam: for students who have passed the partial exams or passed the final written exam and completed the planned homework and project assignments, a final oral exam can be conducted (duration 60 minutes). The final grade is determined by the points obtained from the exams, homework and project assignments according to the respective weight coefficients. During the exam it is allowed to use the literature on the subject in printed form. The use of a calculator is allowed, but the use of mobile phones, tablets or similar electronic devices is not allowed.
