Course Goals (acquired competencies): Upon finishing the course it is expected that the student will understand the advanced concepts of telecommunications networks, demonstrate deep understanding of the functioning and designing telecommunications networks (fixed and mobile) and demonstrate the ability to perform scientific work in the area.
Subject of the course content: Overview of transmission techniques (circuit and packet) and transmission infrastructures in modern telecommunications networks. Overview of broadband access technologies. Advanced access telecommunications networks. xDSL, cable access, PLC, wireless access. Basics of MPLS and GMPLS. Concept of Carrier Ethernet. Routing algorithms (classification and characteristics). Advanced management solutions. IMS. Integration. Development towards NGN. Service examples. Teletraffic engineering of NGN. All-IP architectures. Performance analysis of all-IP networks (throughput, delay). Overview of technologies for wireless networking. Regulation and standardization in telecommunications networks. Case study. Short overview of advanced wireless and mobile network solutions. Development trends in telecommunications networks.
