Course Goals (acquired competencies): With the completion of this course the student acquires knowledge of the energy content of various energy resources in order to achieve sustainable development. The possibilities to cover the energy needs of the different resources and technologies, through energy and economic evaluation and corresponding effects on the environment.
Subject of the course content: Increasing energy efficiency in electrical energy production. New technologies and methods for coal combustion. Precombustion technologies. In situ technologies. Postcombustion technologies. Technologies for coal fluidized-bed combustion. Utilization of natural gas as an energy resource and as environmentally friendly fuel. Gas turbines and their application in a combined-cycle power plants. Cogeneration power plants. Environmentally acceptable technologies for electrical energy production from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in addition to energy efficiency.
