Course Goals (acquired competencies): After completion of the course Energy efficient networking student is expected to know basic concepts and metrics relevant to the implementation of energy networking, be able to think and offer appropriate network solution, to know the development trends and demonstrate the ability of making research in the area.
Subject of the course content: Energy efficiency in telecommunications. Fundamental concepts, architecture and models. Mechanisms for energy efficiency on physical, MAC and network layer. Algorithms for energy harvesting in wireless networks. Overview of energy efficient solutions in modern wireless networks (cellular, sensor, ad-hoc and heterogeneous networks). Management with Smart Grid environment. General Energy Efficiency Evaluation Framework (E3F) of telecommunications systems (system, resource and traffic models, relevant metrics and Case studies: Energy efficiency in LTE). Novel standards and standardization activities for energy efficient networks. Research in the area, past, current projects and future directions.
